IndiGo Requests Government to Reconsider Rules for Hiring Expat Pilots

The Foreign Aircrew Temporary Authorization (FATA) policy currently imposes rules that restrict the hiring of expatriate pilots. Indigo has requested FATA to relax the rules so they may hire more expatriate pilots in the coming days. With Kingfisher airlines battling tough times, experienced pilots working with the airlines are quitting the job to find better opportunities. If the request to relax the FATA policies yields a positive result, Indigo will be in a position to recruit these experienced pilots. Industry sources reveal that the airline has requested the Civil Aviation Ministry to waiver the additional security clearance. The airline has also requested for change in FATA policy regarding the expatriate pilots who fly in India.

A report by Financial Express reveals that low-cost airlines are getting stronger by the day. Their growth is gaining momentum as they are adding one aircraft to their fleet almost every month. While there is no dearth to entry level pilots in the country, the demand for commander level pilots for commercial jets remains a challenge to be faced. There are as many as 450 expatriate pilots who can benefit from the changes in the FATA policy. Indigo currently connects nearly 49 airplanes and aims to increase its presence in Southeastern countries and West Asia.
